Gianfranco Meggiato
b. 1963, Venice, Italy
Gianfranco Meggiato is an internationally celebrated Italian sculptor known for abstract kinetic sculptures. He studied sculpting at the Istituto Statale d’Arte in Venice where he learned to expertly manipulate the materials of wood, stone, bronze, and ceramics. His abstractions have biomorphic qualities that lend a beautiful synergy to the organic shape and their mechanical materiality. Meggiato has participated twice in the Venice Biennale, and in 2017 he was awarded the ICOMOS-UNESCO prize “for having majestically combined the ancient and the contemporary in sculptural installations of considerable evocative power and aesthetic value”. His work is exhibited internationally in the US, Canada, and across Europe and Asia.
