Biography

b. 1981, Barcelona, Spain

Joan Cornellà is a cartoonist and illustrator famous for his unsettling, surreal humour. Often described as disturbing or flat-out offensive, he utilizes simplistic visual language and satire to comment on the flawed, bleak sides of human nature. Cornellà’s work revels in its absurdity and impropriety and no topic is off limits. At first glance, his works appear cheery and bright but behind his playful illustrations lies a thought provoking commentary of skepticism, cynicism, and humour. He has exhibited internationally, with solo shows in such artistic hubs as New York, London, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
