Adam Vieira, better known as Whatisadam (WIA), is a Canadian urban artist based in Montreal whose style is reminiscent of vintage comics and pop art, and is often infused with Canadian imagery. Whatisadam studied animation at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University. Shortly after graduating, he began printing posters of his art, which he has glued to walls around the city, and gradually led him to creating large-scale murals. Depictions of North American wildlife and landscapes are common themes throughout his work, but are always reimagined to feature elements of urban culture, as seen in his maple ‘sizzurp’ cans, tattooed ducks and hockey hoodlums. Whatisadam has collaborated with many organizations such as Osheaga, Sprite, Hennessy, Roots Canada and many more.
