Playful World of Mr Brainwash
TagTO x Mr Brainwash
September 2025 —French-born, Los Angeles-based artist Mr Brainwash continues to inspire and captivate his global audience. Through his optimism and playful energy, his work blends elements of street and pop art. Born Thierry Guetta in France, the artist moved to Los Angeles with his siblings and father at the age of nine. His upbringing in Los Angeles, along with his gradual rise in the art world, played a significant role in shaping his creative persona, Mr Brainwash. He recalls that his positive outlook and zest for life were rare qualities that stood out amid the atmosphere of Hollywood around him.
Mr Brainwash’s rise to prominence is chronicled in Banksy’s 2010 documentary film, Exit Through a Gift Shop, which traces Mr Brainwash’s transformation from an amateur filmmaker into a prominent and celebrated street artist. Since his rise, Mr Brainwash has carefully cultivated his image as a relentless optimist and playful creative, his intriguing persona teetering the line between sincerity and satire. His catchphrases like “Life is Beautiful” and “Never Give Up” have become a part of his brand and character, and have been plastered on city walls, murals, and prints around the world.
Many of the pieces from his prominent collection “Imagiro” were first displayed in 2022 along Rodeo Drive, near the Mr Brainwash Art Museum at 465 North Beverly Drive. Inspired by the art form he cherished as a child, Mr Brainwash’s “Imagiro” collection transforms delicate origami into lasting sculptural pieces, preserving childhood wonder and nostalgia into timeless form.
From Los Angeles to galleries and museum worldwide, Mr Brainwash continues to blur the line between fine art and urban culture. His work continues to uplift and surprise viewers, reminding us all to see find beauty in the everyday.
