February 4, 2022 – Taglialatella Galleries is proud to share Genesis, the highly anticipated debut NFT by Russell Young. The artist’s first foray in NFTs went to auction last month on January 12th, 2022! The British-American artist collaborated with SuperRare for his first NFT release. The auction record-holding artist has translated his iconic ‘Marilyn Crying’ onto the blockchain.
Young is the first artist with an auction record to work with SuperRare bringing with him an impressive list of collectors, including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Barack Obama, David Bowie, Drake, Angelina Jolie, David Hockney, Kayne West, Brad Pitt, as well as having work held in institutional collections including ‘The Getty Collection’ in Los Angeles and ‘The White House Collection’ in Washington, D.C.
‘Marilyn Crying’ captures the Hollywood Star at a rare moment of vulnerability. An image of beauty and pathos frozen in time for eternity, that perfectly sums up the artists practice and exploration into stardom, excess and the complicated nature of the American Dream.
Young’s unique hand-mixed colors are created from pigments sourced from around the globe including a mountainside in Waimea Canyon, Kauai and a pigment shop in Florence that dates its lineage to pre-Renaissance times. The NFT is derived from one hundred original analog silk screen paintings and includes over 1,000 variations mapped by himself, using a unique formula that avoided the use of a generative algorithm.
