Trevor Wheatley x Cosmo Dean | 2024

February 15, 2024 – Taglialatella Galleries Toronto announces the presentation of a new solo exhibition titled Out of Nowhere by artistic collaborators, Trevor Wheatley and Cosmo Dean. On view from February 29 – March 21, the pair’s new exhibition will be a total takeover and transformation of the Taglialatella exhibition space.

The opening reception will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 6 PM – 8 PM.  Artist will be in attendance for its unveiling. Please RSVP by email here.

Wheatley and Dean specialize in environmental text-based sculptures that re-contextualize popular language. Colloquialisms and catch-phrases are rendered in upcycled materials and exist in dynamic relation to their settings. The duo play with linguistics and semiotics, divorcing words from their familiar frame of reference and encouraging viewers to muse on their meaning. Out of Nowhere is an ode to Wheatley and Cosmo’s history of unique creations; scaled-down versions of their monumental environmental sculptures are refined and elevated in clean lines of laminated wood and mirror.

Wheatley and Dean both come from a professional background of design and advertising merging with a personal affinity for street art. They have long occupied a studio in Toronto’s west end that acts as a cultural hub and meeting place for much of the city’s creative community. The last few years have seen the duo exhibit internationally at the How Art Museum in Shanghai and Hashimoto in New York while also creating installations for commercial clients such as Nike, Off White, Stüssy, Google and YouTube.
